Bengaluru: A 52-year-old auto driver has been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder his daughter after fearing he would lose access to her income following her marriage. The incident took place at a private engineering college in Rajanukunte, where the woman works as an assistant professor.
The accused, identified as Nagendra, allegedly attacked his daughter with a knife after repeated disputes over money, police said.
Father allegedly demanded ₹40 lakh
According to the police, Nagendra had demanded ₹40 lakh from his daughter, claiming he had spent a significant amount on her education and was entitled to financial support from her even after her marriage.
Police said he had been searching for a suitable groom and had recently hosted the family of a prospective match. However, frequent arguments over money reportedly strained their relationship, prompting the woman to move out of the family home and live separately with her mother.
Attack inside college chamber
Police said the incident occurred on the afternoon of July 25, when Nagendra arrived at the engineering college and entered his daughter’s chamber. He allegedly waited until she returned from a meeting before attacking her.
He is accused of stabbing her multiple times in the abdomen, chest and neck before fleeing the campus.
College staff immediately rushed the injured woman to a nearby private hospital, where she underwent treatment. Police said her condition is now stable and she is out of danger.
Accused sent to judicial custody
The Rajanukunte police tracked down and arrested Nagendra following the attack. During interrogation, investigators gathered details of the ongoing financial dispute that allegedly led to the incident.
After questioning, the accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
The incident has once again highlighted the tragic consequences of family disputes escalating into violent crimes.
