Bengaluru: In an unusual development, an FIR has been registered against a Police Sub-Inspector at the very station where he is posted, following allegations of physical assault, verbal abuse and criminal intimidation. The case was filed at the Magadi Road Police Station based on a complaint lodged by a man identified as Avinash.
According to the complaint, Avinash alleged that PSI Kaushik assaulted and threatened him when he visited the police station in connection with an earlier case in which he had secured bail.
Allegations of assault and intimidation
In his complaint, Avinash stated that he had gone to the police station with a copy of the bail order related to a previously registered case. He alleged that upon seeing the bail copy, PSI Kaushik verbally abused him and aggressively questioned him about how he managed to obtain bail.
Avinash further claimed that during the exchange, the officer slapped him on the cheek and used threatening language. He alleged that the PSI warned him against pursuing any legal remedies and threatened to implicate him in another criminal case if he continued to contest the matter.
The complainant has accused the officer of misusing his authority and intimidating him inside the police station premises.
Background of the dispute
The incident is reportedly linked to a civil dispute and a chit fund cheating case. Earlier, a woman named Lakshmi had filed a complaint against Avinash’s mother, Pramila, accusing her of financial fraud related to chit fund transactions. Based on Lakshmi’s complaint, a case was registered and an investigation was initiated.
Avinash alleged that during the course of the probe, his family members were subjected to harassment. He claimed that his mother, sister and father were detained without proper notice and physically assaulted during questioning.
According to him, even after he secured bail in the case, the alleged harassment continued. He stated that the PSI verbally abused him in front of his mother and sister and physically attacked him despite the bail order being in force.
FIR registered under relevant sections
Following these allegations, Avinash approached the Magadi Road Police Station and lodged a formal complaint detailing the alleged assault and threats. Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered against PSI Kaushik, along with Lakshmi and another individual identified as Narasimha, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Police sources confirmed that the FIR has been recorded and that further investigation will be carried out in accordance with legal procedures. As per protocol, the matter is likely to be examined by senior officers or transferred to another unit to ensure impartiality.
