Bengaluru: Three railway coaches parked at the Rajanukunte railway yard on the outskirts of Bengaluru caught fire on Wednesday morning, with two of them suffering extensive damage. No injuries or casualties were reported.
The fire broke out in coaches that had been stationed at the yard for several days. The flames reportedly spread rapidly, prompting railway personnel to alert the fire and emergency services.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and worked to extinguish the blaze. Three coaches were affected, of which two sustained severe damage.
Coaches used for mock fire drills
Railway officials said the affected coaches had been kept at the yard for mock fire accident exercises organised by the department.
The coaches were not part of an operational train and were not parked on an active railway track. No passengers or railway employees were inside them when the fire broke out.
Although the blaze initially appeared to be small, it reportedly intensified and spread to the other coaches, resulting in extensive damage to two of the three affected units.
The absence of people inside the coaches helped prevent injuries or loss of life.
Railway officials inspect the site
Officials from the Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway visited the yard to inspect the scene and assess the extent of the damage.
The railway department has initiated a review to establish how the fire started. The precise cause remains unknown, and investigators are expected to examine possible technical malfunctions and other factors that may have contributed to the incident.
Railway authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the fire, with further details expected after the inspection and inquiry.
Cause of fire yet to be established
The incident has raised questions about how the coaches caught fire while parked at the railway yard. However, no cause has been officially confirmed so far.
The findings of the inquiry are expected to clarify the sequence of events and the factors responsible for the blaze.
