Five men have been arrested after a young woman alleged that she was gang-raped at a house in Maruthi Nagar under the Talaghattapura police station limits in south Bengaluru on Friday evening.
Police said the woman, a resident of Devanahalli, was allegedly lured to the house on the pretext of meeting friends before the alleged assault took place.
Woman allegedly lured to house
According to senior police officers, the victim received a phone call around 5 pm from the prime accused, Amaresh. Police said Somashekhar, who works for a private security services agency, allegedly informed her that his friends from Kalaburagi had come to Bengaluru and wanted to meet her.
The woman reportedly reached the house around 7 pm using a bike taxi. Investigators said she was acquainted with two of the five accused.
Police said the group spent some time together and consumed alcohol before the alleged assault occurred.
Police rescue woman after emergency call
According to investigators, the prime accused allegedly raped the woman. Police are also probing the role of the other four accused to determine their involvement in the incident.
The woman managed to escape and immediately contacted the 112 emergency helpline. A police patrol team rushed to the location, rescued her and apprehended all five accused from the house.
The arrested individuals include Amaresh, Somashekhar and three others.
Investigation underway
The victim was shifted to a hospital for medical examination, and the Talaghattapura Police have registered a case.
Police said the accused are being questioned, and further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and the role of each suspect.
Officials added that the final charges will be determined based on the victim’s statement, medical evidence and other findings emerging during the investigation.
