The city woke up under a thick blanket of fog and mist early Sunday, with visibility dropping to around 4 km and humidity levels surging past 90% in several neighbourhoods, according to weather-monitoring station data.
Calm winds and a moist pre-dawn air layer created ideal conditions for fog formation across the metropolitan region. By mid-morning, the fog began to lift, giving way to cloudy skies that are expected to clear partially later in the day.
Temperature and humidity trends
According to the latest forecast, Bengaluru will experience daytime temperatures hovering around 29°C (85°F), dipping to 19–20°C (67–68°F) overnight. Meteorologists at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the combination of high surface moisture and light wind speeds contributed to the dense fog observed in several parts of the city, including the southern and eastern suburbs.
Over the past week, the city has recorded a steady cooling trend. Daytime highs ranged from 29.1°C to 24.3°C, while nighttime lows dropped from 21.3°C to around 18.9°C. The elevated morning humidity, typical during this transitional phase from the monsoon to winter, has led to recurring mist and fog in the early hours.
Retreating monsoon influence
Although no significant rainfall has been recorded during the week, meteorologists noted that the persistent cloud cover and surface dampness are remnants of the retreating monsoon. The current fog formation, they said, aligns with this seasonal transition as Bengaluru gradually shifts toward a cooler and drier November.
Experts added that fog events of this kind are expected to continue intermittently through the first half of November, especially during calm nights with high humidity.
Forecast for the coming days
From November 2 to 6, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, with highs around 30°C and lows near 19°C. Humidity levels are likely to ease to 60–75%, while skies will remain partly cloudy with no major weather alerts.
The IMD forecast suggests that Bengaluru residents can expect warm afternoons and pleasant mornings — ideal for outdoor activities such as morning walks, cycling, and rooftop relaxation. With stable weather conditions and minimal rainfall predicted, the city is set for a comfortable and dry start to November, offering a refreshing change after the damp and overcast October.
