Bengaluru/Nellore: Former YSRCP minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy was arrested in Bengaluru on Sunday by special police teams from Madanapalle and Nellore in connection with multiple criminal cases, including illegal quartz mining, unlawful stocking of explosives, and violations under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

Despite being served multiple notices by the Podalakur police in the quartz mining case, Kakani had failed to appear for questioning. His repeated absences and failed attempts at securing anticipatory bail from both the High Court and Supreme Court led authorities to form dedicated teams to trace and detain him.

After remaining untraceable for nearly two months, police teams tracked Kakani across Hyderabad, Chennai, and other cities, before finally apprehending him in Bengaluru. He was transported by road to Nellore late Sunday night.

In addition to the current charges, six other cases are reportedly pending against Kakani in the MLA’s court. Sources confirmed he will undergo a medical examination and be presented before the local magistrate by Monday morning.

Senior Nellore police officials have declined to comment on the arrest, maintaining silence on the unfolding legal proceedings.
