Students appearing for the Karnataka SSLC examinations in Bengaluru can now travel free on BMTC buses on exam days, as authorities roll out measures to ease commuting stress.
Free travel to support students
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has introduced free bus travel for SSLC students starting March 18, when the exams begin. The initiative aims to ensure students reach their exam centres on time without worrying about travel expenses.
Across Karnataka, around 9.02 lakh students have registered for the SSLC exams, with over 1.5 lakh candidates appearing from Bengaluru alone.
How students can avail the service
Students can use the facility by following simple steps:
- Carry their SSLC hall ticket
- Show it to the bus conductor while boarding
- Travel without purchasing a ticket
The service is available on all regular BMTC buses operating within the city.
Important guidelines for students
Officials have clarified that the free travel facility will not be applicable on AC services, including Vayu Vajra buses.
BMTC staff have been instructed to assist students, and drivers may halt near exam centres if they notice students waiting.
Exam arrangements and precautions
Authorities have set up multiple exam centres across Bengaluru’s North and South education districts to manage the large number of candidates.
To ensure fairness, all exam halls will be equipped with CCTV surveillance. Students have been advised to:
- Leave home early due to traffic conditions
- Reach exam centres at least 45 minutes before the exam
Reducing stress during exams
Officials believe the free travel initiative will significantly reduce logistical challenges for students and help them focus better on their exams.
The move is expected to benefit thousands of students, particularly those travelling from distant areas, ensuring a smoother and stress-free exam experience.
