The headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru received yet another hoax bomb threat on Friday, triggering an emergency evacuation and a large-scale security operation. The latest alert came just a day after police traced the sender of a similar threat email to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Tamil email triggers evacuation

According to police, ISRO officials received an email in Tamil on Friday morning claiming that a bomb had been planted at Antariksha Bhavan, the space agency’s headquarters on New BEL Road.

Following standard security protocols, the premises were immediately evacuated. Personnel from the Bengaluru Police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out an extensive search of the campus.

After a thorough inspection, no explosives or suspicious objects were found, and authorities confirmed the threat to be a hoax.

Police trace previous threat to Ghaziabad

The fresh incident comes less than 24 hours after ISRO received a similar bomb threat via email. Acting on a complaint lodged by the administrative officer of the organisation, Sanjaynagar Police registered a case and formed a special investigation team.

Using technical analysis and digital evidence, investigators traced the earlier email to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Police identified the sender as 36-year-old Nishath Tyagi and seized the electronic device allegedly used to send the threatening messages.

Accused undergoing treatment for mental illness

According to Bengaluru Police, the accused has reportedly been undergoing treatment for mental illness since 2008. Officials said further investigation is underway.

Police also revealed that the accused is suspected of sending similar hoax bomb threat emails to Air India, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), ISRO, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

Authorities reiterated that every bomb threat is treated with the utmost seriousness, and all necessary security measures were followed to safeguard personnel and the premises.
