A dispute over a ₹5,000 loan allegedly ended in tragedy in Bengaluru‘s Suddaguntepalya area, where a 29-year-old man was stabbed to death by his close friend following a heated argument on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Wasim, an AC mechanic, while the accused, Syed Saleem, 30, works at a tent house. According to police, the two were schoolmates and shared a close friendship, frequently meeting with a common group of friends.
The incident occurred around 12.30 pm when several friends had gathered in Nimhans Layout. During the interaction, Saleem reportedly asked Wasim to return ₹5,000 that he had lent him earlier. What began as a conversation soon escalated after Wasim allegedly made derogatory remarks about Saleem’s mother and sister.
Argument turns violent
Police said the exchange quickly turned into a physical confrontation. During the scuffle, Wasim allegedly attacked Saleem with a stone, causing injuries. Enraged by the assault and the remarks made against his family members, Saleem allegedly retaliated by stabbing Wasim with a knife.
Wasim suffered grievous injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Saleem also sustained injuries during the altercation and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Murder case registered
Based on a complaint lodged by Wasim’s mother, the Suddaguntepalya Police have registered a murder case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Police officials said Saleem will be formally questioned once he is discharged from the hospital. Investigators are also recording statements from witnesses who were present during the altercation to establish the exact sequence of events.
The incident has once again highlighted how personal disputes and momentary loss of control can lead to irreversible consequences.
