In a story that is resonating widely online, a Bengaluru-based man has redefined success by walking away from a high-paying corporate career to prioritise mental health, self-worth, and personal freedom.

A dream career that felt empty

Rakesh, who once worked at Apple Inc., appeared to have everything—good salary, prestigious job, and a comfortable lifestyle. However, beneath the surface, he struggled with loneliness and a growing sense of emptiness.

He gradually realised that the demanding corporate environment left little room for emotional well-being, making him feel disconnected and overwhelmed.

Mental health struggles and treatment

The pressures of work and personal challenges took a severe toll on his mental health. Rakesh sought treatment at institutions like NIMHANS and Victoria Hospital, where he underwent therapy and relied on medication for depression.

For a prolonged period, he felt confined and unable to regain control over his life.

A turning point through fitness and discipline

Determined to rebuild himself, Rakesh turned to fitness and self-learning. He adopted intermittent fasting, trained in martial arts such as Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and lost 15 kilograms.

His dedication paid off when he secured a silver medal at a state-level competition, marking a significant milestone in his recovery journey.

Finding dignity in every job

Rakesh took up various roles, including food delivery, bike taxi services, and even cleaning at a gym. He embraced each job with dignity, viewing them as opportunities to grow stronger and more self-reliant.

These experiences reshaped his perspective on work, helping him rediscover self-respect and independence.

A life chosen, not compromised

Today, Rakesh drives an electric auto in Bengaluru. Far from being a compromise, he considers it a conscious choice that allows him to live life on his own terms. Alongside work, he pursues interests like dancing and painting, finding balance and joy in everyday living.

A message beyond success and salary

Rakesh’s journey reflects a larger reality faced by many in today’s fast-paced corporate world. While financial stability is important, his story underscores the value of mental well-being, purpose, and personal freedom.
