A growing number of Indians are relocating overseas, lured by promising career prospects and financial security. The US, UK, Canada, Australia, and Singapore rank among the top destinations for professionals looking to advance their careers. Arnav Gupta, a Bengaluru-based tech expert who moved to London six months ago, recently shared his insights on the contrasts between India’s and the UK’s tech industries.
In a post on X, Gupta, who secured a Global Talent Visa, mentioned that while tech salaries in the UK are competitive, they aren’t disproportionately high compared to other fields, unlike in India. He found that finance roles tend to offer more lucrative pay than tech jobs.
“The biggest change in perspective for me was realizing how much people here genuinely enjoy the work itself—not just the job title or the product,” he noted. He observed that UK tech professionals deeply care about the process, quality, and structure, engaging in meaningful debates about execution rather than just meeting deadlines.
Gupta also pointed out that India’s tech scene has unique strengths. Global giants like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon operate vast teams in India, showcasing its strategic significance. Additionally, Indian tech salaries vary widely, with top professionals earning 10-20 times more than entry-level employees—something far less common in the UK.
Ultimately, both regions have distinct advantages, making career choices dependent on individual priorities.
