Forest Minister Ishwara Khandre announced that the Gajapayan, the prelude to the Nadahabba Dussehra festival, is scheduled for August 21. The event will see the participation of 14 elephants from various camps. Khandre revealed that nine elephants from the first team will be dispatched to Veeranahosahalli in Hunsur taluk, while the second team will include five elephants, with an additional four reserved for emergencies.

The minister made this announcement during the inauguration of the tiger house observation gallery at Mysore Zoo on Friday. Alongside the Gajapayan, Khandre also mentioned an upcoming international conference on human-elephant conflict management, set to be held on August 12 at the GKVK premises of Bengaluru Agricultural University.

Additionally, a high-level Dussehra meeting under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s chairmanship is anticipated in the afternoon. These developments underscore significant preparations and focus on the Nadahabba Dussehra festival in Mysore and its surrounding regions.
