Bengaluru: In a chilling incident, a man stands accused of brutally murdering his acquaintance, dismembering the body, and disposing of the remains in the Pinakini river near Bellathur. The disturbing episode, which occurred between May 28 and 29, came to light following the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.

The victim, identified as K V Srinath (34), worked as a development officer with Margadarsi Chit Funds. He and the accused, Madhav Rao, shared a two-year acquaintance marred by a dispute over a purported sum of Rs 5 lakh owed towards a chit fund. Additionally, it is said that Srinath may have been involved in an illicit relationship with Madhav Rao’s spouse.

On the fateful day of May 28, Srinath left his residence for work and failed to return. Concerned, his wife lodged a missing person’s report with the Sampigehalli police. Subsequent investigations revealed CCTV footage showing Srinath visiting Madhav Rao’s residence in Vijinapura, K R Pura, on May 28. However, there was no evidence of his departure from the premises.

Further scrutiny uncovered bloodstains within Madhav Rao’s dwelling, prompting authorities to intensify their search efforts. Eventually, Madhav Rao was apprehended in Andhra Pradesh.

During interrogation, Madhav Rao confessed to a heated altercation with Srinath over the outstanding chit fund payment. In a fit of rage, he purportedly struck Srinath on the head with a jack rod, resulting in his demise. Subsequently, Madhav Rao dismembered the body and packed the remains in plastic bags, which he subsequently disposed of in the Pinakini river.

CCTV footage captured Madhav Rao leaving his residence under the cover of darkness, carrying bags believed to contain the victim’s body parts. He then deactivated his mobile phone and fled to Andhra Pradesh to evade authorities.

The investigation has since been transferred to the Ramamurthy Nagar police, who are diligently scouring the riverbanks in search of the victim’s remains.
