Bengaluru: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has asked consumers who are yet to be covered under the Gruha Jyothi beneficiary household survey to submit the required documents at their respective subdivision offices by October 31. The utility has clarified that the deadline is final and will not be extended.

The facility is intended for consumers who could not participate in the door-to-door survey because their houses were locked, vacant or otherwise inaccessible when BESCOM personnel visited.

The state government has permitted such beneficiaries to submit their documents directly at BESCOM offices, providing an alternative to the household survey conducted over the past three-and-a-half months.

Survey covers more than 74 lakh beneficiaries

BESCOM operates across eight districts and has a total of 74,29,773 beneficiaries covered by the survey. These include beneficiaries under the Bhagya Jyothi, Kutira Jyothi and Amruta Jyothi schemes, along with Gruha Jyothi consumers.

According to figures released for October 22, BESCOM had completed the survey of 73,17,687 consumers, representing 98.49% of the total beneficiaries.

The remaining consumers have been urged to complete the required formalities before the October 31 deadline.

The survey aims to update beneficiary details through a door-to-door verification exercise. However, some households could not be covered despite repeated visits by field personnel.

BESCOM makes three visits to inaccessible homes

During the survey, BESCOM personnel visited locked and vacant houses on three occasions in an effort to reach the concerned consumers.

The utility also sent text messages to consumers’ mobile phones, asking them to participate in the survey and complete the necessary formalities.

Despite these efforts, some beneficiaries remained outside the survey coverage. The provision for submitting documents at subdivision offices is intended to give these consumers a final opportunity to complete the process.

Consumers who have not yet been surveyed must visit their respective BESCOM subdivision offices and submit the required documents by October 31.

Deadline will not be extended

BESCOM has stressed that the deadline is final and that the document submission facility is the last opportunity for beneficiaries who missed the door-to-door exercise.

Consumers who are yet to complete the process are advised to approach their subdivision offices without waiting until the final day. They should also confirm the documents required for their cases with the concerned office before making the visit.

With the survey already covering 98.49% of the identified beneficiary base as of October 22, BESCOM is seeking to complete the remaining verification within the stipulated period.
