Bengaluru: The state government’s flagship Gruha Lakshmi guarantee scheme completed three years of implementation on Sunday, August 30.
To mark the milestone, prominent historical and administrative landmarks across Karnataka will be illuminated in pink from 6 pm to 10 pm. The colour pink has been chosen as a symbol of women’s pride and empowerment.
The landmarks selected for the special illumination include the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, Suvarna Soudha and Kittur Chennamma Circle in Belagavi, Mysuru Palace, Chitradurga Fort, the Stone Chariot in Hampi, and the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner’s office building in Mangaluru.
Launched by the Congress-led Karnataka government on August 30, 2023, the Gruha Lakshmi scheme provides monthly financial assistance of ₹2,000 to the woman head of every eligible household. The initiative aims to support women in leading more independent and self-reliant lives.
According to the Department of Women and Child Development, more than ₹76,500 crore has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of around 1.20 crore beneficiaries across the state since the scheme was launched.
The government’s decision to illuminate major landmarks in pink is intended to highlight the scheme’s three-year journey and its focus on the economic empowerment of women.
