The Karnataka High Court has directed police to register an FIR against a sub-inspector of Bengaluru Police over allegations that he assaulted and kicked an advocate.

The direction came while hearing a petition filed by the lawyer, who claimed the officer physically attacked him during the incident.

Court seeks legal action

The High Court observed that when a complaint reveals a cognisable offence, police must register an FIR and investigate the matter according to law.

It accordingly ordered authorities to initiate proceedings against the officer.

Complaint to be investigated

The advocate alleged that the sub-inspector kicked and assaulted him during an altercation. The full circumstances of the incident are expected to be examined during the probe.

The petition was filed after alleged delay in acting on the complaint.

Accountability stressed

The order reinforces that allegations against police personnel must also be dealt with through due legal process.
