Bengaluru: The state government informed the High Court that the bodies of 8 out of 11 people trapped under the mud in the Shirur hill collapse in Uttara Kannada district have been recovered, leaving 3 still unaccounted for.
Advocate General K. Sasikiran Shetty explained that the rescue operation was hindered due to heavy rainfall. The court directed the state government to continue the operation and adjourned the hearing to August 12.
The state government submitted daily reports of the rescue operation from June 16 to July 31, detailing the efforts made to recover the trapped individuals.
Assistant Solicitor General H. Shantibhushan stated that the central government has provided necessary cooperation to the state government in the rescue operation. However, he noted that the strong water current in the nearby river has complicated the rescue efforts.
The state government assured the court that every possible effort is being made to rescue the trapped individuals, using both manpower and machinery, except in cases of extreme impossibility due to natural causes.
