Dramatic scenes were witnessed in Devanahalli after a man climbed a nine-storeyed apartment building and threatened to end his life unless the deputy commissioner was brought to the scene.

Police identified the man as Anand. He reportedly scaled the private apartment building near the Devanahalli bypass around 3 pm on Tuesday.

Witnesses said he shouted that he wanted justice and refused to come down until senior officials arrived.

Emergency teams rush to spot

Personnel from Devanahalli Police and fire and emergency services rushed to the location and began negotiations.

Officials tried for hours to calm him and persuade him to descend safely.

Sources said Anand is an accused in two POCSO-related cases and was also allegedly involved in an earlier incident concerning the Chikkaballapur deputy commissioner.

Mother’s emotional plea

In a moving moment during the standoff, Anand’s mother arrived at the scene and appealed to her son to climb down.

Despite her pleas, he initially refused and continued to insist that he wanted justice.

He also reportedly claimed that his mobile phone had been compromised.

Four-hour tension ends safely

After nearly four hours of negotiations, authorities finally convinced him to descend around 7 pm without injury.

Police then took him into custody for questioning.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the protest and whether additional legal action will follow.

The incident caused concern among residents and highlighted the importance of mental health intervention and peaceful grievance redressal mechanism
