Bengaluru: In response to allegations that inmates are using phones inside the jail to communicate with outsiders, Minister of Home Affairs Dr. G. Parameshwar announced the installation of high-resolution jammers.
Dr. Parameshwar made this statement during a media briefing where he also distributed release certificates to 77 convicts in a pre-term release ceremony, based on their readiness after spending many years in various prisons across the state.
Initially, the high-resolution jammer had an 800-meter range, extending beyond the compound and causing issues for locals. Consequently, its working range has been reduced to 100 meters. However, Dr. Parameshwar emphasized that the jammers will not be removed.
Previously released twice a year, inmates are now being released on parole three times a year due to a Supreme Court order. With over 15,000 inmates across 54 state jails, ensuring safety is crucial. Dr. Parameshwar stated that it is the department’s responsibility to enhance and reform inmates through skill training and education programs.
