A late-night drive ended in tragedy after a high-speed Mercedes-Benz car crashed into a divider on Bengaluru’s Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR), killing two occupants in the early hours of Saturday.
The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Rizwan, a married man and father of two, and his 28-year-old friend Sajjiya. The accident occurred on a bridge near Hoskote while they were returning to Bengaluru from Devanahalli.
Vehicle crashed into divider
According to police, Rizwan had picked up Sajjiya and the two had gone out for dinner on Friday night. After dining in Devanahalli, they were travelling back to Bengaluru when the accident took place at around 12.45 am.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Rizwan, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz belonging to one of his clients, lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a road divider.
The impact was so severe that the luxury car was completely mangled.
Victims thrown out during impact
Investigators said Rizwan was thrown out of the vehicle through the sunroof and landed in a nearby drain, while Sajjiya was flung onto the road.
Emergency teams launched a search operation and later recovered Rizwan’s body from the drain. Both occupants succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers of high-speed driving on major highways and expressways.
Police probe cause of accident
Police suspect overspeeding may have been a key factor behind the crash. Officials are examining CCTV footage from the expressway and surrounding areas to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the accident.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether any other factors contributed to the fatal accident.
