Bengaluru: A 40-year-old home guard, Suresh Kumar, was arrested by Sadashivanagar police on Saturday for allegedly harassing and blackmailing three female students at their rented accommodation in MS Ramaiah Nagar.

According to the police, the three BSc students from Kerala were staying in a rented room when Kumar arrived on Friday night, falsely claiming to have received a complaint about disturbance from their residence.

Upon opening the door, the accused forced his way inside, misbehaved with the students, and demanded ₹5,000 under the pretext of an inquiry. Additionally, he collected their mobile numbers and personal details, raising further concerns.

One of the students grew suspicious and immediately called emergency helpline Namma 112. The police responded swiftly, arresting Kumar on charges of misconduct and extortion. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Further investigations revealed that this was not his first offence—he had previously extorted money from the same students under a similar pretense.
