Fourteen patients, including several admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), were safely evacuated after a fire broke out at a private hospital in Bengaluru in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 3.15 am at Aveksha Hospital on MS Palya Road in the Singapura area. No injuries or casualties were reported among patients or hospital staff.
Fire brought under control
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the hospital immediately after receiving information about the blaze. Firefighters managed to contain the fire before it could spread to other parts of the building.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have originated from an electrical cable located in a basement duct of the hospital.
The incident caused dense smoke to spread through sections of the premises, triggering panic among patients, attendants and staff members.
Patients shifted to nearby hospital
As a precautionary measure, all 14 patients were evacuated from the building. Several ICU patients were among those shifted safely to a nearby hospital to ensure uninterrupted medical care.
Hospital staff and emergency responders worked together to carry out the evacuation without any reported injuries.
Investigation underway
Officials from the Vidyaranyapura police station visited the site after the fire was extinguished and conducted an inspection.
Police said further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess any damage caused to the hospital infrastructure.
Authorities praised the swift response of firefighters and hospital personnel, which helped prevent a major tragedy.
