The three-month mystery surrounding the death of six-year-old P Vennela has taken a shocking turn after the prime accused allegedly confessed that an outburst of anger over a spilled ice cream led to the child’s death.

Mohan GN, the live-in partner of the girl’s mother, Priyanka, reportedly told investigators that he struck Vennela in the stomach and forcefully covered her mouth to silence her cries while they were returning from Hoskote on March 24.

Confession sheds light on tragic incident

According to police, Vennela, her mother Priyanka and Mohan had spent the day visiting shops and eateries in Bengaluru before travelling to Hoskote for dinner and ice cream.

Investigators said the child accidentally spilled her ice cream inside their vehicle while returning home. During questioning, Mohan allegedly admitted that he lost his temper, hit the girl with his elbow and then tightly covered her mouth when she began crying loudly.

Police believe the combination of severe abdominal injuries and smothering resulted in the child’s death.

Forensic evidence supports findings

Officials said a histopathology report revealed internal injuries in the child’s abdomen, supporting the investigation’s findings. The vehicle involved has been sent for advanced forensic examination, and the final report is awaited.

Mohan was arrested on June 4 following a complaint filed by Vennela’s father, Praveen, an educationist from Davanagere.

Troubled relationships under scrutiny

The investigation has also uncovered strained personal relationships among those involved. Police said Mohan, who is married and has two children, had allegedly left his family and moved in with Priyanka earlier this year.

Priyanka remains absconding, and efforts are underway to trace her. Investigators are examining her role in the events leading up to and following the child’s death.

Further investigation is continuing.
