The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has busted an illegal horse race betting racket operating from a residential building in west Bengaluru and arrested a 65-year-old man allegedly involved in running the gambling network.

The raid was conducted by the CCB’s Special Investigation Wing at a house in Jyotinagar, where the accused, identified as P Sheshadri, was reportedly accepting bets on horse races from punters.

Betting racket operated from residential building

According to police, Sheshadri was running the operation from a room on the third floor of a residential property. Investigators alleged that he was conducting betting activities without any valid licence and accepting wagers through both cash payments and online transactions.

Officials said the accused had allegedly set up a system to manage betting activities using multiple mobile phones and bank accounts.

Phones and betting records seized

During the raid, police seized four mobile phones, a tablet device, a calculator, pens and 15 sheets containing details of horse races and betting records.

Preliminary investigation revealed that some of the seized mobile phones were linked to bank accounts allegedly used to process betting-related transactions.

The documents recovered from the premises are expected to help investigators identify the scale of the operation and trace financial transactions connected to the racket.

Investigation continues

Police are examining digital evidence recovered from the electronic devices and analysing transaction records to determine whether others were involved in the illegal betting network.

Further investigations are underway to identify customers, financial links and possible associates connected to the operation.

Authorities reiterated that betting and gambling activities conducted without proper authorisation are illegal and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved.
