Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another wet day for Bengaluru, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers likely across the city and surrounding districts. The weather office has also warned of possible waterlogging, tree falls, and traffic delays, urging commuters to plan their travel accordingly.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, similar weather conditions are expected across southern and central Karnataka districts, including Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Tumakuru.

Heavy rain likely in parts of Karnataka

“Heavy rain and thundershowers with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at one or two places over Shivamogga, Vijayanagara, Ballari, Chitradurga, and Davanagere,” the IMD said.

The department has advised residents and motorists to stay alert to changing weather conditions and follow updates from the Bengaluru Traffic Police and BBMP disaster management cell in case of emergencies.

Coastal districts to see intensifying rainfall

The IMD further said that rainfall is expected to intensify along the Karnataka coast later this week. On Friday, heavy rain and thundershowers with gusty winds are likely in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts.

Udupi and Uttara Kannada may see further downpours on Saturday, while Dakshina Kannada is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall.

Traffic diversions and road closures in Bengaluru

Several parts of Bengaluru have already reported traffic congestion due to fallen trees and ongoing infrastructure work. The Bengaluru Traffic Police has issued advisories for major routes:

  • Ali Asker Road towards Cunningham Road remains closed due to a tree fall. Commuters are advised to use Infantry Road as an alternate route.
  • The RC Pura–Ramachandrapura stretch has also been shut for clearance operations following tree damage.
  • Panathur Main Road will remain closed until October 31 for maintenance work.
  • Ongoing metro station construction near Karthik Nagar is expected to slow traffic between Mahadevapura and Marathahalli.

Officials have urged motorists to start early and avoid low-lying areas known to flood during heavy rainfall.

Commuters report long delays

Several stretches of the city witnessed long traffic jams on Thursday morning. Residents shared images and videos on social media showing waterlogged roads and slow-moving vehicles in key corridors, including Outer Ring Road, Silk Board Junction, and Bellandur.

The BBMP’s emergency teams have been deployed to clear fallen trees and drains in flood-prone areas. Officials said work is ongoing to ensure that traffic disruptions are minimised and that critical junctions remain operational.

Advisory and conclusion

Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors during intense downpours, avoid standing under trees, and park vehicles away from open drains or weak walls.

With the IMD predicting continued rainfall until the weekend, commuters in Bengaluru are likely to face extended delays and flood-related disruptions.
