Bengaluru: The Department of Posts has launched its premium ‘24 Speed Post’ service aimed at ensuring guaranteed next-day delivery, with Bengaluru among the first cities to receive the new facility. The service was rolled out on Tuesday as part of an initiative to strengthen time-bound logistics and support the growing demand for fast delivery services.

Apart from Bengaluru, the service has also been introduced in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad during the initial phase.

Officials said the new service is designed to benefit both individual customers and businesses, especially the rapidly expanding e-commerce sector that depends heavily on reliable and quick logistics solutions.

42 post offices identified in Bengaluru

In Bengaluru, 42 post offices under the Karnataka Postal Circle have been designated to handle bookings for the new 24-hour delivery service.

The rollout will initially cover select PIN codes within the city, with plans for gradual expansion depending on demand and operational performance.

Postal authorities said the service aims to ensure that consignments booked under the scheme are delivered within 24 hours (D+1), offering a faster alternative to conventional postal delivery options.

Priority handling will be provided at every stage of the logistics chain, from booking to final delivery.

Focus on speed and reliability

According to the Department of Posts, the new service includes several features intended to improve reliability and transparency for customers.

One of the key features is OTP-based delivery confirmation, ensuring that parcels are handed over securely to the intended recipient.

Additionally, the department has introduced a full postage refund policy if the consignment is not delivered within the promised time frame, subject to applicable claims and conditions.

Officials said these measures are intended to build customer confidence and position India Post as a competitive logistics provider in the rapidly evolving delivery market.

Support for e-commerce businesses

The service is expected to particularly benefit e-commerce companies and small businesses, which require reliable and fast delivery systems to meet customer expectations.

With Bengaluru being one of India’s major technology and start-up hubs, demand for rapid logistics services has increased significantly in recent years.

Postal officials noted that the 24-hour Speed Post service can help businesses improve delivery timelines, especially for documents, lightweight parcels and urgent consignments.

Bulk customers are also expected to benefit from the service due to faster processing and delivery guarantees.

‘48 Speed Post’ option also introduced

Alongside the new premium service, the Department of Posts has also introduced a ‘48 Speed Post’ option.

This service guarantees delivery within two days, providing customers with an additional time-bound logistics solution between standard Speed Post and the new 24-hour delivery option.

Authorities said the introduction of multiple time-bound services will allow customers to choose delivery options based on urgency and cost.

Tariffs and pricing structure

The Department of Posts has announced a pricing structure based on weight and distance.

For the 24-hour service, tariffs start at Rs 38 for local documents up to 50 grams and go up to Rs 186 for documents weighing up to 500 grams over longer distances.

For parcels, charges begin at Rs 200 for consignments up to 500 grams and increase to Rs 990 for parcels weighing up to 5 kg, excluding GST.

Under the 48-hour Speed Post service, tariffs start at Rs 61 for documents up to 50 grams across different distance slabs and rise to Rs 121 for documents up to 500 grams over longer distances.

Officials said the pricing structure is designed to remain competitive while ensuring high-quality service.

Expanding modern postal services

India Post has been gradually modernising its services in response to changing customer needs and increasing competition from private courier companies.

With the rapid growth of e-commerce and online businesses, efficient logistics infrastructure has become increasingly important.

Postal authorities believe that services like the 24-hour Speed Post can help strengthen the organisation’s role in the logistics ecosystem.

Conclusion

The launch of the 24-hour Speed Post service in Bengaluru marks a significant step in enhancing time-bound delivery services in India. With guaranteed next-day delivery, OTP-based confirmation and a refund policy for delays, the initiative aims to provide faster and more reliable postal services.

As the service expands to more PIN codes and cities, it is expected to play a key role in supporting individuals, businesses and the rapidly growing e-commerce sector.
