Jamun, the seasonal purple fruit known for its medicinal value, has become one of the most sought-after fruits in markets across Karnataka, with demand rising sharply this summer.

Popularly known for its sweet and slightly tangy taste, jamun is drawing large numbers of buyers due to growing awareness about its health benefits, especially for diabetes management and digestion.

Fruit vendors in Bengaluru and several other parts of the state said sales have increased significantly over the past few weeks as customers actively search for fresh stock during the short seasonal window.

Demand driven by medicinal benefits

Traders said many consumers are purchasing jamun not just as a seasonal fruit but also for its traditional medicinal uses.

The fruit is believed to help regulate blood sugar levels, improve digestion and boost immunity. Its seeds and pulp are commonly used in Ayurvedic remedies and traditional health practices.

Vendors said the demand has particularly increased among health-conscious buyers and elderly customers looking for natural dietary supplements.

Seasonal fruit attracts buyers every year

Jamun typically arrives in markets during the summer and early monsoon months, making it a highly seasonal fruit with limited availability.

Despite fluctuating prices, buyers continue to purchase the fruit because of its popularity and perceived health value.

Market traders said locally sourced jamun varieties from Karnataka and neighbouring states are currently dominating fruit stalls across cities and towns.

With increasing public awareness about natural and immunity-boosting foods, sellers expect strong demand for jamun to continue throughout the season.
