A fresh spell of rain in Bengaluru has once again exposed the city’s recurring waterlogging problems, with residents expressing frustration after several roads were flooded following just 10 minutes of rainfall.

The debate gained momentum after a resident shared a photograph of a waterlogged stretch in Indiranagar on social media, claiming that even a short downpour was enough to disrupt daily life. The user said they could not find an auto-rickshaw for a short commute and ended up arriving late for a movie due to flooding near Ejipura.

Social media flooded with complaints

As rain lashed parts of the city, residents took to social media to share visuals of submerged roads, traffic snarls and overflowing drains.

Several users sarcastically compared Bengaluru to Venice, while others referred to flooded roads in areas such as HSR Layout and Mahadevapura as “rivers” and “beaches”. Videos showing vehicles struggling through waterlogged stretches quickly gained attention online.

Many residents questioned why the city continues to face flooding despite repeated promises of infrastructure improvements.

Rainfall disrupts traffic movement

According to reports, Bengaluru recorded significant rainfall during the recent pre-monsoon showers. The downpour affected traffic movement across multiple localities, leaving commuters stranded for extended periods.

Low-lying areas were among the worst affected, with water accumulation slowing vehicle movement and making it difficult for people to access public transport.

Civic infrastructure under scrutiny

The latest incident has renewed criticism of Bengaluru’s stormwater drainage systems and road maintenance.

Residents and civic activists have called for better drainage management, timely desilting of drains and improved urban planning to address the city’s flooding challenges.

With the monsoon season approaching, many citizens fear that heavier rains could further worsen the situation unless corrective measures are implemented swiftl
