Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has forecasted widespread moderate to heavy rains across the state until July 12, with isolated areas expecting very heavy rainfall. The meteorological department has issued an “orange alert” for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts, and a “yellow alert” for Belagavi, Dharwad, and Kodagu districts, warning of heavy rains.

Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts are also expected to experience light to moderate rain, with wind speeds of 30-40 kmph, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Thursday, Bengaluru Urban recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21.4 degrees Celsius, with no significant weather conditions or recorded rainfall. In contrast, Bengaluru Rural saw a maximum temperature of 29.0 degrees Celsius, a minimum of 21.5 degrees Celsius, and drizzles with trace amounts of rainfall.

C S Patil, director of the India Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru, reported significant rainfall in the coastal and western ghat regions in July, highlighting Agumbe, which recorded 34 mm of rain on July 3. The Malenadu district, previously experiencing below-average rainfall, has now reached its expected precipitation levels. Additionally, heavy rains in Uttara Kannada have caused the Aghanashini river to flow at full capacity.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay updated with weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of heavy rainfall.
