After a short pause, the southwest monsoon has surged again across Karnataka, triggering intense rain and strong winds in multiple districts, including Bengaluru. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a state-wide weather alert lasting until June 17, warning of significant rainfall throughout the week.
Heavy showers accompanied by wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are forecasted in Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Ballari, Chikkaballapura, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Davangere, Hassan, and Vijayanagar. Moderate rainfall is expected in Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, and Kolar.
In South Interior Karnataka, particularly Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu, isolated locations may witness extremely heavy downpours with winds reaching 50–60 kmph. The IMD warns of a potential increase in rainfall intensity after June 14 in this region.
Coastal Karnataka districts—Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi—are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain, with chances of extremely heavy rainfall in a few spots. Winds may range from 30–40 kmph.
In North Interior Karnataka, areas like Belagavi, Dharwad, and Gadag are expected to face intense rainfall with wind speeds hitting 50–60 kmph. Other districts including Koppal, Haveri, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Raichur may see heavy rain, while Bidar and Yadgir are likely to receive moderate showers.
Early Thursday, torrential rains in Hubballi, Dharwad district, led to severe waterlogging, particularly affecting Hanashi village. The IMD predicts that widespread rainfall will persist across coastal and northern regions through June 17.
