As temperatures soar across Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall in 14 districts from March 12 onwards, while the rest of the state is expected to remain dry. Bengaluru will experience normal summer conditions, though nighttime temperatures may feel warmer.

Rainfall forecast

IMD predicts showers in districts such as Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Shivamogga.

Meanwhile, 16 districts, including Vijayapura, Tumakuru, Davangere, Chitradurga, Ballari, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, and Belagavi, will continue experiencing dry weather.

Temperature trends

Kalaburagi recorded Karnataka’s highest temperature at 37.8°C, while Bidar saw the lowest at 12°C. Bengaluru is set for a cloudy week with a maximum of 34°C and a minimum of 20°C. Honnavar, Karwar, Hassan, and Mysuru reported above-normal temperatures, while Bidar and Koppal stayed slightly cooler than average.

Bengaluru’s summer outlook

Unlike last year, Bengaluru is expected to have typical summer temperatures, though nights may feel warmer due to the urban heat-island effect. IMD’s CS Patil noted that night-time temperatures could rise by 1-2°C.

Heatwave precautions

With the heat intensifying, Karnataka’s Health Department advises residents to:

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Wear light, full-coverage clothing
  • Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours

Stay prepared for fluctuating weather as Karnataka navigates rising heat and incoming rains.
