Karnataka girls U-13 football team created history by defeating hosts Punjab girls U-13 football team to win their first U-13 Asmita National Football League title in Mahilpur on Saturday.
The thrilling final ended 1-1 in regulation time before Karnataka held their nerve to win the penalty shootout 5-4.
Historic first national crown
This marks Karnataka’s maiden title in the U-13 Asmita National Football League and adds to an impressive campaign after the team had earlier won the South Zone U-13 Championships.
The victory is being seen as a major boost for grassroots girls’ football in the state.

Subhathra converted the decisive penalty to seal the championship for Karnataka.
Other successful spot-kick takers for Karnataka included Anvi Joshi, Madumetha K, Richa Bhatia and Takshvi Mahajan.
For Punjab, Savri, Fiza, Ribkah and Tanveer Kaur converted their penalties.
Tight final battle
Earlier in the match, Subhathra gave Karnataka the lead from the penalty spot in the 31st minute. Punjab responded strongly, with Tanveer Kaur equalising in the 38th minute to force the contest into penalties.
