Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has rejected Dr. Sabeel Ahmed’s petition in connection with the 2012 terror plot case, where he is accused of involvement in activities linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) charged Ahmed with procuring illegal arms for targeted killings in Bengaluru, Hubballi, Nanded, and Hyderabad.
The case, initially filed at Basaveshwaranagar police station in Bengaluru and later transferred to NIA, saw Ahmed detained upon deportation from Saudi Arabia in 2020. Despite an attempt to seek discharge citing an acquittal in a similar Delhi case, the special court rejected his plea in August 2023, prompting his appeal to the High Court.
The High Court dismissed Ahmed’s petition, noting distinctions between the Delhi and Bengaluru cases. While both involve allegations related to terrorism, the court affirmed that the charges and circumstances differ significantly. The bench highlighted Ahmed’s active participation in meetings related to the crimes alleged in Bengaluru.
Ahmed, residing in Banashankari, Bengaluru, is the younger brother of Kafeel Ahmed, known for a 2007 suicide bomb attempt at Glasgow airport.
