Karnataka is planning a 500-acre industrial hub in Mandya district featuring a dedicated centre of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
The project significantly expands an earlier 100-acre proposal and aims to create a larger ecosystem for automotive research, testing, certification and manufacturing.
Bigger vision for Mandya
The proposal was discussed between Industries Minister M B Patil and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy. Both sides reportedly agreed that an integrated industrial cluster would deliver better long-term benefits than a standalone facility.
The hub is expected to support auto component manufacturers, electric vehicle firms and related industries.
Land options under review
Officials are evaluating multiple locations in Mandya district. Key options include:
- Basaralu – around 105 acres earlier considered for ARAI
- Belluru – around 425 acres near the Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway
- Areas near Pandavapura
- Thubinakere industrial zone
The final site will depend on connectivity, infrastructure and future expansion potential.
Push beyond Bengaluru
The project is part of Karnataka’s strategy to expand industrial growth beyond Bengaluru. Mandya’s location between Bengaluru and Mysuru makes it attractive for new investment.
EV and jobs boost expected
The ARAI centre could attract EV and automotive companies seeking testing and certification support within the state. Officials say the hub is expected to generate employment and create a stronger industrial base in the region.
Separate unit also planned
The government is also considering land allocation for Andrew Yule Company Limited for a manufacturing unit.
