Authorities said Saketh was last seen about a kilometre away from the university campus. Later, his backpack containing his passport and laptop was found near a residence close to Tilden Regional Park.

Police described him as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.

Academic background

Saketh completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2025. He was pursuing a Master’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering under the MS PDP’26 programme at UC Berkeley.

Government response on student safety

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated that the safety and security of Indian students abroad remains a high priority. Indian Missions and Consulates regularly coordinate with host country authorities in cases involving missing persons or violent incidents.

The MEA also encourages students to stay connected with Indian missions through the MADAD Portal, WhatsApp groups, emergency helplines and pre-orientation briefings conducted upon arrival overseas.

Investigations into Saketh’s disappearance are ongoing.
