Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil on Thursday directed officials to prepare a vision document to accelerate mobile and electronics product manufacturing and design in Karnataka, with the aim of drawing $150 billion in future investments.

Patil held discussions with a high-level delegation led by Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA). He noted that the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT had recently introduced an electronics components manufacturing scheme, and the State is examining the feasibility of launching a parallel initiative. “The proposal is still in the draft stage, and we welcome suggestions from ICEA,” he said.

Highlighting Karnataka’s strong potential in mobile-phone components, industrial electronics, and strategic electronics, Patil said officials had been instructed to study the Union Government’s policy along with schemes implemented by other states.

Mohindroo explained that the Centre’s programme prioritises sub-assemblies—such as displays, camera modules, bare components and core manufacturing equipment—and offers performance-linked incentives in addition to up to 25% capital subsidy. The scheme has an outlay of ₹22,900 crore.

He further noted that, until November this year, the Union Government had cleared 17 investment proposals worth ₹7,172 crore, which are expected to create 11,800 direct jobs and generate products valued at over ₹65,000 crore.

Industries Department Principal Secretary S Selvakumar, Industries Commissioner Gunjan Krishna, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
