Madurai-born professional Karthik Mohan has been recognised under the Abhaya Bravery Award 2026 – Season 2 as a “Community Guardian” for his commitment to community safety and women’s empowerment through knowledge and compassion. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Alliance Française de Bangalore Auditorium on March 6, 2026.
Rooted in values from Madurai
Raised in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Karthik credits his upbringing for shaping his discipline and community-driven mindset. His father, Mohan, worked as a businessman, while his mother, Alaghu, managed the household. Growing up alongside his younger brother in a family that valued hard work and responsibility, he developed early lessons in leadership, negotiation and shared growth.

He completed his schooling at Mahatma School and later pursued a degree in Administration from Madurai Kamaraj University.
Professional expertise with a social lens
Currently serving as a Senior Payroll & Compliance Co-ordinator at Withum Smith Brown India, Karthik specialises in labour compliance and payroll systems. With over 15 years of HR and compliance experience, he has developed a deep understanding of workplace regulations, employee rights and the practical challenges faced by working professionals.
He believes that legal awareness and economic literacy are powerful tools for empowerment, particularly for women navigating corporate and informal workspaces.
The ‘Safe Corridor’ initiative
Karthik’s social journey began with an unusual yet deeply practical observation — the link between neglected stray animals and unsafe neighbourhood environments. Witnessing hungry street dogs behaving erratically due to neglect, he chose compassion over fear.
Through consistent feeding and care, he helped transform the temperament of stray animals in his locality. The once-feared streets gradually became calmer spaces. According to him, the well-fed animals naturally evolved into protective presences in the neighbourhood, reducing anxiety for residents — especially women walking at night.
He calls this approach the “Safe Corridor” initiative — a model where empathy becomes a tool for public safety.
Strategic pillars for social impact
Karthik outlines three core pillars for long-term impact:
- Holistic safety: Addressing root causes of fear in public spaces to ensure women feel secure at all hours.
- Economic and social agency: Conducting skill-building workshops and leadership mentorship for financial independence.
- Community harmony: Encouraging empathy-driven initiatives that convert fear into collective responsibility.
If further empowered through platforms like the Abhaya Bravery Award, he plans to launch structured programmes combining professional mentorship, compliance education and environmental awareness.
Empowerment through knowledge
Among his proposed initiatives are:
- Workshops simplifying labour laws such as maternity benefits, equal pay and workplace safety.
- One-on-one career counselling on payroll systems, compensation negotiation and corporate navigation.
- Training women to understand canine body language to reduce fear and enhance confidence in public spaces.
- Building a “Protective Mentor Network” that blends hard compliance skills with soft skills rooted in awareness and compassion.
Karthik Mohan’s work underscores a simple but powerful belief — that safety begins with understanding, empowerment grows through knowledge, and compassion can transform entire communities.
His recognition as a “Community Guardian” reflects a model of bravery that is proactive, preventive and deeply humane.
