Bengaluru: More than 140 members of Kanara Entrepreneurs (KE), along with their families and friends, came together for the inaugural KE SportsMania 2026, turning a day of sporting competition into an opportunity for networking, teamwork and fellowship.

Organised by KE GenNow, the youth wing of Kanara Entrepreneurs, the full-day sports meet was held at the BCU Base Camp by Push Sports. The event brought entrepreneurs and professionals from different industries together in an informal setting, with sporting activities providing a platform to build new connections and strengthen existing relationships.

Sports and business come together

The event began at around 8 am on a cloudy Sunday morning with a KE prayer led by GenNow member Betsy Francis.

Addressing the participants, KE Bengaluru chapter president Pramod D’Souza highlighted the similarities between business and sport. He particularly stressed the importance of timely decision-making, saying that both entrepreneurs and sportspersons need to recognise opportunities, act decisively and know when to cut losses.

The gathering also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of KE’s previous leadership teams. Pramod D’Souza welcomed the participating past presidents and thanked the former boards for helping build a platform that enables members to network, exchange experiences and support one another in their professional journeys.

Past president Adrian D’Souza delivered a short keynote address and encouraged the younger members of KE to carry the organisation forward. He also wished the participants success in the day’s competitions.

Six franchises compete

The sporting action featured six competing franchises — Kanara Challengers Bangalore (KCB), The Bumblebees, The Red Brigade, The Black Storm, Coastal Crew and KE 6E.

The teams competed in a series of fixtures throughout the day, with participants displaying competitive spirit while maintaining the camaraderie that was central to the event.

The inaugural tournament eventually saw Kanara Challengers Bangalore emerge as champions. KCB secured the title after a closely contested final against The Bumblebees, who finished as the runner-up team.

The final brought an exciting conclusion to the sporting events, with both teams putting up a spirited performance. KCB subsequently lifted the inaugural KE SportsMania trophy.

Focus on fellowship and networking

While competition remained at the heart of SportsMania, the event was also intended to take KE’s networking culture beyond conventional business meetings and boardroom interactions.

Entrepreneurs and executives from different sectors and cities participated in the gathering, creating opportunities for members to interact with people outside their immediate professional circles.

KE GenNow conceived the event as a way to encourage cross-industry collaboration while promoting teamwork and personal relationships among its members. The participation of families and friends further broadened the gathering beyond a conventional corporate sporting event.

The organisers said the day demonstrated how shared sporting experiences can create connections that extend into professional and personal relationships.

For an organisation focused on bringing entrepreneurs together, the informal setting also allowed members to interact away from the usual business environment. Sporting competition, team activities and the shared celebrations helped create a sense of community among participants.

Evening celebrations cap the event

Following the sporting fixtures, participants moved from the pitch to an evening of celebrations and fellowship.

The day concluded with music, dancing and social interactions, giving participants an opportunity to unwind after the day’s competitions. The celebrations brought together members, families, friends and industry leaders who had taken part in the event.

The transition from sporting activities to the evening celebrations also reinforced the event’s broader objective of combining wellness, networking and community building.

GenNow team leads initiative

KE SportsMania 2026 was managed by the KE GenNow team under the leadership of Dr Bryan D Menezes, with Petson Gonsalves and Elton D’Souza playing key roles in organising the event.

The initiative was mentored by KE lead member Laveena D’Souza and received the backing of KE Bengaluru chapter president Pramod D’Souza and his executive board.

The organisers’ efforts covered the sporting competitions as well as the broader arrangements aimed at ensuring participation from members, families and friends.

The successful completion of the inaugural edition has also encouraged Kanara Entrepreneurs to continue the initiative. The organisation plans to make SportsMania an annual event, with the focus extending beyond competition to include wellness, leadership development, networking and community engagement.

The first edition of KE SportsMania thus served as both a sporting meet and a fellowship platform, bringing together members from diverse professional backgrounds. With plans to make it an annual fixture, the initiative is expected to become another avenue for KE members to strengthen professional networks while building relationships through shared experiences.
