Bengaluru: A 39-year-old man from Kerala was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in his rented apartment in Hulimavu, south Bengaluru, on Sunday morning. The deceased, identified as Vishnu C. P. from Thiruvananthapuram, was working as a medical transcriptionist for a healthcare company, police said.

Body found in toilet, no suicide note recovered

According to police officials, Vishnu’s body was found hanging inside the toilet of his flat in Yelenahalli around 11 am. He was immediately rushed to St John’s Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Investigators said that no suicide note was found at the scene. The police have begun a detailed inquiry to determine whether the death was self-inflicted or if foul play was involved.

Family alleges harassment by flatmates

Preliminary investigations revealed that Vishnu was sharing the flat with two women employed in private firms. His family, however, suspects that he had been harassed by his flatmates in the days leading up to his death.

Vishnu’s brother, Jishnu C. P., told Deccan Herald that his brother had complained of being harassed by both women over certain issues.

“My brother was being harassed by both women over some issue. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to know the exact cause of death. I have been informed that one of the flatmates has been taken into custody for questioning, and the truth will emerge after a detailed inquiry,” Jishnu said.

Case registered for abetment to suicide

Following Jishnu’s complaint, the Hulimavu police have registered a case of abetment to suicide under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against both women. One of them has reportedly been detained for questioning.

The police have also sent Vishnu’s body for post-mortem examination, the results of which are expected to provide more clarity on the cause of death.

Investigation continues

Officials said that digital evidence, including mobile phone records and CCTV footage from the apartment complex, is being examined. Police are also recording statements from neighbours and co-workers to understand the circumstances that led to Vishnu’s death.

Authorities have assured the family that a fair and transparent investigation will be conducted.
