Bengaluru: A 21-year-old BCom student from Kerala was found dead at her paying guest (PG) accommodation in Suddaguntepalya, near her college, on Thursday night. Police suspect she died by suicide and have launched an investigation into the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Suryagiri, a native of Kerala, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree at a private college in Koramangala.
Roommates alerted police
According to police, the incident occurred late at night when Suryagiri was alone in her room. Her roommates later found her hanging from the ceiling and immediately alerted the police.
Officers reached the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem examination. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Police examining possible reasons
A senior police officer said preliminary investigations indicate that the student had been under emotional distress following a recent breakup. Police are also examining her mobile phone and messages to understand the circumstances leading to her death.
Investigators said no suicide note was recovered from the scene. Preliminary inquiries also suggest that she had been undergoing treatment for depression following the death of her grandfather due to health-related issues.
As part of the investigation, police are questioning her boyfriend, who is also a student at the same college, to ascertain the sequence of events.
Police said the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the death will be determined after completing the investigation and analysing all available evidence.
