Three hotel management students from Kerala were allegedly attacked and robbed by a gang of six men in Konanakunte police limits in Bengaluru on Friday night.
The victims, who stay together in a rented room at Pavamana Nagar off BG Road, were reportedly studying when the accused entered the room around 10 pm.
Gang barges in during study time
According to police, the room door was open when the six men suddenly barged inside and assaulted the students. The gang then looted three mobile phones and cash from the room.
The accused also allegedly forced the victims to transfer Rs 10,000 through a UPI payment before fleeing the spot.
The shaken students approached Konanakunte Police Station soon after the incident and lodged a complaint.
Police trace suspects through UPI clue
Investigators said the accused were speaking in Tamil during the robbery. Police have begun efforts to identify and trace the gang.
An officer said authorities have received leads based on the UPI transaction used during the forced transfer.
Safety concerns for students
The incident has raised concern over the safety of students living in rented accommodation across Bengaluru, especially those staying away from home for higher studies.
Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and gathering technical evidence to track the suspects.
