Bengaluru: In a student-friendly initiative, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has announced free bus travel for students appearing for the upcoming 2nd PUC (Pre-University Course) Examination-2 across the state.

The move aims to ease travel-related stress and financial burden on students during the examination period, especially for those commuting long distances to reach their centres.

Hall ticket enough for free travel

According to official sources, students will not be required to obtain any special pass to avail of the facility. Instead, they can travel free of cost by simply showing their valid examination hall ticket to the bus conductor.

The benefit will be available across a wide range of KSRTC services, including city, suburban, ordinary, and express buses, ensuring accessibility for students from both urban and rural areas.

Valid during exam period

The free travel facility will be applicable on all examination days between April 30 and May 13, 2026. However, students can avail of the service only on the days they are scheduled to appear for exams.

Officials said the initiative is designed to ensure that students can commute to and from their examination centres without worrying about transport expenses or availability.

Special instructions to staff

KSRTC has issued clear instructions to its drivers and conductors to support students during the examination period. Staff have been directed to stop buses near examination centres upon request, even if there is no designated bus stop.

This measure is expected to help students avoid delays and reach their centres on time, particularly in areas where last-mile connectivity is a challenge.

Additionally, staff have been instructed to treat students courteously and ensure a hassle-free travel experience. In case of any difficulties, students can approach the nearest depot manager or contact the KSRTC control room.

Relief for students and parents

The decision has been widely welcomed by parents, students, and educationists. For many families, especially in rural areas, travel costs during examination periods can add up significantly.

By offering free transport, KSRTC is helping reduce financial pressure while also ensuring that students can focus on their exams without additional stress.

Conclusion

The initiative reflects a proactive approach by KSRTC in supporting students during a crucial academic phase. By simplifying travel and improving accessibility, the corporation is playing a key role in enabling smoother examination experiences for thousands of candidates across Karnataka.
