A flyer named Macqueline Fernandez recently shared a distressing incident on social media, where she and her family—including two elderly members—got trapped inside a lift at Bengaluru Airport’s Terminal 2 for around 15 minutes. The frightening experience unfolded just before they were scheduled to board an international flight.
In her post, Fernandez described the situation as harrowing, with the elevator continuously jolting during the power outage. “Being stuck inside with two senior citizens was terrifying. It was a nerve-wracking moment right before an international journey. What kind of safety norms are these?” she questioned while tagging Bengaluru airport and the Airports Authority of India.
She expressed frustration over the absence of a phone inside the lift, adding, “We kept our finger pressed on the alarm button the entire time. That was our only lifeline.” According to her, airport security personnel offered no assistance even after the ordeal. “We were genuinely afraid the lift might crash. The staff showed no concern or basic compassion,” she wrote.
After voicing her experience online, airport authorities reached out to her. She acknowledged a staff member, Mr Guru, who handled the matter professionally and spoke with understanding. “At a global airport like this, consistent power backup for elevators should be a given,” she added.
Replying to comments, she hoped no other traveler would ever have to undergo such a traumatic episode. “This shows how unprepared they are in emergencies,” she remarked.
