A financial dispute within a family allegedly turned into a shocking crime in Bengaluru after a couple was kidnapped, confined and assaulted over an unpaid loan amount.

Police said Prafulla S., along with her husband Saleem Sheik and associate Beeresh, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Loan dispute sparks family tension

According to investigators, the trouble began over a loan of ₹9.5 lakh allegedly given to Prafulla’s sister Pruthvi.

Though Pruthvi had reportedly repaid more than half the amount, police said the accused continued pressuring the couple to clear the remaining balance.

Couple taken to house and threatened

The victims were allegedly taken to a house in Nagarabhavi, where they were confined inside a room and threatened with serious harm if the pending money was not paid immediately.

Police further stated that the couple were verbally abused and physically assaulted during the ordeal.

After some time, the victims were reportedly allowed to leave. They later approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Swift police action

Based on the complaint, Hebbagodi Police Station launched an investigation and arrested all three accused.

Authorities said the case highlights how unresolved financial disputes can dangerously escalate when handled through threats and violence instead of legal means.

Further investigation is under way.
