In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police seized nearly ₹2 crore in unaccounted cash during coordinated raids on properties linked to a senior government official in the city.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officials conducted searches at six locations connected to HM Janardhan, a superintending engineer with the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS).
Cash recovered from associate’s flat
During the operation, ₹1.7 crore in cash was recovered from a flat belonging to Sujay Shetty, described as a close associate of the officer. Videos from the raid showed bundles of currency notes spread across a bed, with officials using counting machines to tally the amount.
Authorities stated that several incriminating documents were also seized during the searches.
Assets 216% above known income
Preliminary findings indicate that the officer owns assets worth approximately ₹4.42 crore. Of this, properties valued at ₹3.2 crore were identified, including three houses worth ₹2.4 crore and agricultural land valued at over ₹60 lakh.
According to Lokayukta officials, the total assets are 216 per cent higher than the known sources of income of the superintending engineer, pointing to alleged disproportionate wealth accumulation.
Search and seizure operations are still underway, and further disclosures are expected as the investigation progresses. Officials have stated that detailed scrutiny of financial records and property documents will continue in the coming days.
The case marks yet another significant move in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption within public offices.
