Commuters travelling through KR Pura and surrounding areas are likely to face traffic disruptions next week as South Western Railway (SWR) begins replacement of the concrete slab at the Lowry Road Railway Underbridge (RUB) near KR Pura railway station.

The underbridge stretch connecting KR Pura to Ramamurthy Nagar and ITI Colony will remain closed from June 4 to June 9 to facilitate the repair work.

Alternative routes suggested

Authorities have advised motorists heading towards ITI Colony, Ramamurthy Nagar and KR Pura to use the KR Pura cable-stayed bridge during the closure period.

The move is expected to impact thousands of daily commuters who rely on the underbridge for access between eastern Bengaluru neighbourhoods.

Partial closure on KR Pura-Whitefield route

In addition to the underbridge closure, parts of the KR Pura-Whitefield corridor will also witness traffic restrictions.

However, SWR officials clarified that only a one-kilometre stretch from KR Pura towards Whitefield will be affected. Commuters travelling towards ITPL and Whitefield have also been advised to use the cable-stayed bridge as an alternative route.

ITPL Main Road to face overnight disruption

A 500-metre section of ITPL Main Road will remain closed for 12 hours from 6 pm on June 7 until 6 am on June 8.

Railway officials said the timing was carefully chosen to minimise inconvenience to office-goers, particularly those travelling to the technology parks and business hubs located along the corridor.

To ensure smoother movement during the temporary closure, traffic will be diverted through a specially created temporary road near the underbridge.

Commuters advised to plan ahead

With multiple road closures and diversions scheduled over the six-day period, commuters have been urged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.

Traffic police and railway authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely to minimise congestion and ensure public safety while the infrastructure work is completed.
