The Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) has unveiled an ambitious ₹3,825.95 crore budget for 2026–27, with a strong focus on infrastructure upgrades, traffic management, and flood mitigation measures across the region.
Focus on roads and traffic infrastructure
A significant 43 per cent of the total outlay, amounting to ₹1,661.95 crore, has been allocated for public development works. Key proposals include widening of major roads, construction of grade separators, and comprehensive junction development to ease traffic congestion.
Corporation Commissioner Ramesh K N stated that land acquisition for these projects will be facilitated through Transferable Development Rights (TDR), with ₹50.45 crore earmarked for related expenses.
Road widening projects include Subramanyapura Road from Banashankari Temple to Outer Ring Road (₹20 crore) and the stretch from Begur Main Road to Begur Koppa Road (₹40 crore). Additionally, development of Bannerghatta Road from Dairy Circle to NICE Road is planned in phases this financial year.
Skywalk and pedestrian-friendly initiatives
To improve pedestrian safety, a barrier-free elevated skywalk will be constructed near Banashankari Temple, connecting the Metro station and TTMC at an estimated cost of ₹32 crore. A further ₹50 crore has been set aside over three years for junction beautification, improved walkways, and additional skywalks.
Tackling floods with sponge parks
In a move to address urban flooding, the budget proposes the development of ‘sponge parks’ at a cost of ₹2 crore. These parks are designed to absorb excess rainwater and improve drainage resilience during heavy rainfall.
Revenue strategy and civic services
The corporation plans to generate revenue through multiple channels, including ₹1,101.30 crore from property tax, ₹382 crore from building approvals, ₹360 crore via premium FAR, and ₹225 crore through khata conversions. An additional ₹200 crore is expected through municipal bonds, along with ₹126 crore from advertisements.
Each of the 72 wards has been allocated ₹2.25 crore for local development works.
Health and administrative reforms
The budget also emphasises healthcare and governance. A 50-bed maternity hospital will be constructed in Ejipura at ₹18.96 crore, while ₹13.03 crore has been allocated for upgrading 25 Urban Primary Health Centres.
To strengthen emergency response, ₹5 crore has been earmarked for preparedness and equipment. The corporation also plans to implement a paperless e-Office system to enhance transparency and efficiency.
New civic office planned
BSCC will construct its own office building near Banashankari Temple at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore, with work set to begin this year.
The budget reflects a comprehensive push towards improving urban infrastructure, mobility, and public services in South Bengaluru.
