The victim, identified as Sharath, was standing with his friend Chintan at a roadside tea stall when three men approached them and began questioning him.
Assault triggered by mistaken identity

A video of the incident shows the attackers forcibly pushing Sharath into an autorickshaw after a brief altercation.
Brutal attack inside vehicle
Once inside the vehicle, Sharath was repeatedly beaten, sustaining injuries to his face and head. In a further escalation, one of the attackers reportedly used a knife to strike him on his shoulders and legs using the blunt side, leaving him injured and bleeding.
Attackers realise mistake
Police said the attackers realised their mistake only after checking Sharath’s mobile phone. Following this, they abandoned him midway but allegedly threatened him against reporting the incident.
Complaint filed, probe underway
Despite the threats, Sharath approached the Byadarahalli Police Station and filed a complaint.
A case has been registered, and police have launched a search operation to identify and apprehend the accused.
