Security personnel at Vidhana Soudha detected a man carrying ₹6 lakh in cash while attempting to enter the premises, triggering a brief security alert.
Cash found during routine check
According to police, the cash was discovered during routine baggage screening at the entry point. Officials immediately stopped the individual, noting that carrying large sums of cash inside the high-security premises is not permitted.
The man was questioned on the spot before being escorted for further inquiry.
Claim linked to medical emergency
During interrogation, the man stated that he had come to meet a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) to obtain a recommendation letter. He claimed that a relative was hospitalised and that the money was intended for medical expenses.
He reportedly sought the MLA’s support to help reduce hospital bills, which prompted him to carry the cash.
Police verification and release
Police detained the man and took him to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Vidhana Soudha Security, for detailed questioning.
After verifying his explanation and background, officials found no evidence of wrongdoing. The man was subsequently released, and the cash was returned to him.
Heightened vigilance in place
Authorities have stepped up security checks at Vidhana Soudha following similar incidents in the past. Officials reiterated that strict screening measures are in place to ensure safety and prevent unauthorised activities within the premises.
While the incident ended without legal action, it underscores the heightened alertness of security personnel at one of Karnataka’s most important government buildings.
