Bengaluru: A 45-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 17th floor of an under-construction apartment building in Sampigehalli, police said on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Vivekananda, who lived with his wife and children in the city. According to police, he had visited the apartment complex on Wednesday night, stating that he wanted to inspect a flat for purchase.

Incident at under-construction building

The incident occurred in Sampigehalli, a rapidly developing locality in north Bengaluru. Police said Vivekananda used the pretext of checking a flat to gain access to the upper floors of the building.

He reportedly went up to the 17th floor and jumped, resulting in his death on the spot. The building is located near a tech park, where several residential projects are currently under development.

Personnel from the Sampigehalli Police Station rushed to the scene after receiving information and shifted the body for post-mortem examination.

Financial stress suspected as cause

Preliminary investigation indicates that the deceased was under severe financial stress. Police sources said he had allegedly taken loans from private financiers and suffered losses in stock market trading.

Authorities suspect that pressure from mounting debts and possible harassment by moneylenders may have contributed to his decision. However, officials clarified that the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.

Case yet to be registered

Police stated that no formal case has been registered so far, as the family members of the deceased are yet to file a complaint. Further action will depend on statements from the family and findings from the ongoing investigation.

Rising concerns over financial distress

The incident once again highlights the growing concerns around financial stress and mental health, particularly among individuals dealing with debt and economic uncertainty.

Experts often emphasise the importance of seeking timely help and support during periods of distress, including reaching out to family members, counsellors, or professional services.

Conclusion

The tragic death of Vivekananda underscores the need for greater awareness around financial pressures and mental well-being. Authorities are continuing their investigation, while the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of support systems during challenging times.
